A shark bite has been reported on Reunion Island, June 1.

Eddy Chaussalet was around a meter from the shore of La Follette when he began wetting his neck and preparing to attach his leash when he felt a pressure on his arm.

The bull shark released the 47-year-old’s arm as Chaussalet kicked his board towards it.

Even with severed tendons, Chaussalet was able to climb out of the water.

He was given first aid by doctors and firefighters on scene before being transported to Saint-Denis University Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

This is the twenty-ninth shark bite attack of 2015, six of which were fatal and two were out of water (normally fisherman bitten by their catch).*

Two of this year’s fatal occurrence happened in Reunion Island.

13-year-old surfer Elic Canestri died on April 12 and Talon Bishop 22, died from a heart attack of being bitten while swimming.

The incident has been marked on the 2015 shark bites shark attack tracking map.

*The information is based on reported shark bites attacks.  It is possible the number could be higher as the incidents are not reported or have been slow to reach the United States.
